The gallery contains photographs taken recently by members of The Folding Society, or of events or equipment of interest to members. Members are invited to submit pictures for inclusion in the gallery - but please don't email very large files. This archive contains pictures with a Moulton theme.
This picture might amuse members - it shows Mike Hessey pictured in
1965 with his then almost new Stowaway. The bike has lasted much better
than its rider! Photograph by the late Fred Hessey.
Left: Most folders and separables use small wheels, and this means
that higher than normal gears are required to compensate. This is a rather
extreme example - from this angle it looks almost as big as the rear
wheel! The bike is a Moulton Speedsix S, belonging to Steve Mundie, which
means that it is not actually a folder or separable.
Right: Where did you get that hat?? Steve Mundie himself, sporting
some rather fine headgear. In recent years Steve has taken to making his
own bicycles, some, although not all, of which separate by means of S&S
couplings. Photographs: Mike Hessey.
These two bikes would have started life identical, as they are both AM5s.
The picture shows how owners customise their bikes to suit their
individual requirements - dropped bars, water bottle, toe clips and a
light rear bag for the bike on the left which was used for touring, while
the one on the right is more suited to gentle town use. The bike on the
left has changed character again since this picture was taken, and is now
owned by Alan Kennedy. Photograph: Mike Hessey.
In the UK the winter weather is rather miserable at the moment - wet, windy and grey, although not too cold. It seems a good time to revive memories of some sunny summers in the past ...
In the thick of it. During the Moulton Bradford on Avon weekend 1993
we shot a lot of photographs for a calendar, which was issued to all
members of the Moulton Bicycle Club in 1994. Quite a few shots were taken
on the road, like this one - Paul Lund drove round the Sunday ride with
the back of his Honda hatchback open, while Mike Hessey leaned out of the
back taking pictures of the riders. As this and the next picture show, the
weather was excellent, as it usually is for the Moulton weekends, even
though (or perhaps because) it was actually September, rather than
mid-summer. I suppose we should probably have used a tandem trike rather
than a car!
This picture was taken at the same Bradford on Avon weekend during the
lunch stop. As I travelled to the lunch stop by car on this occasion, and
this was a fairly leisurely picture, I see that it was taken with a
Bronica (a rather bulky medium format camera) - not a camera I usually
take out on cycle rides due to its size and weight. The action pictures
such as the one above were taken with autofocus 35mm cameras (Minoltas).
Seated on the left is Ian Hodgson; seated immediately behind the bicycle
is, I think, Jim Stembridge; I thought at first that the bearded gentleman
in the yellow jacket was unknown to me, but I now suspect is Nigel Sadler
during his bearded period (can you confirm this Nigel?), and also seated
at the same table is Alan Holden, while in the background on the right is
Ian Wright. Just to prove that I don't know all 1000+ members of the
Moulton club, I have to admit that I can't identify the three people
standing in the background.
